A fine quality Victorian burr walnut lap desk or writing slope with superb original fitted interior complete with ink wells and Wedgwood porcelain insets to the exterior c.1880. The exterior veneered in burr walnut and decorated with fretted and engraved brass overlays whichbare inset with Wedgwood powder blue porcelain panels. The sloping hinged front section folding over to form a writing surface, and the domed hinged rear section opening to reveal a fitted pen and ink compartment. The sloping writing surface covered in the original dark blue velvet with gilt tooled edge; the rear of the ...surface opening to access a mahogany lined storage compartment. The rear pen and ink section with dished pen tray to the centre and three lidded compartments, which have storage underneath along with a single ink well with gilt brass top. The finest quality and presented in outstanding original condition with a rich colour and polish. The box opens out to 15.5" deep.
