An Early George II period 'Hook & Spike' clock.c.1740. 10" brass and silvered dial with gilt spandrels to the corners. Made by highly regarded Quaker clock maker, John Gilkes of Shipston, Oxon. Birdcage movement striking on a bell to the hour. Very original. Full working order. Measures 10" x 6.5"deep x 46"long including the pendulum. *2nd son of Thomas Gilkes of Sibford. Also son, Thomas Gilkes carried on the business.
