An early Victorian figured mahogany banjo barometer with rare 6" dial by sought after maker Adie of Edinburgh C.1840. Slim case with swept moulded edge and figured mahogany veneers. Rare 6" size dial with decorative engraving, bears the makers name Adie & Son, Edinburgh. Sat behind a convex glass set in a polished brass bezel with a remote action reading marker. Thermometer box above with matching silvered scale and original mercury action thermometer. Mercury action barometer movement to the rear in full working order. Alexander Adie was a famous barometer maker and optician to William IV an...d Queen Victoria, he was later in partnership with his son John. Presented in immaculate condition with a deep shine and in full working order. Measures 34" high x 8.5" maximum width x 1.5" deep. Stock number 34934.
