A small proportioned George I period elm six plank coffer with carved front in superb original condition c.1710. Constructed from six substantial planks of elm, the side panels cut at the base with an upturned v to form a foot. Carved front panels with two rondels, moulded bottom edge and original lock plate with clasp set to the centre of the top edge. The hinged lid with chip carved ends, moulded edge and decorative carved boarder running around the inner edge. The lid opening to reveal a clean interior with hinged hand formed lock clap secured with original nails and visible or...iginal hand forged hook and eye hinges. Superb mellow golden colour and original rich patina, presented in excellent original condition. Measures 29.75" wide x 14.75" deep x 19.25" high. Stock number 39961.
