An extra large sized mid Victorian thermometer with oak casework, by Moritz Pillischer, Bond St, London c.1870. The broad figured oak case with arched top, moulded edge, and hand painted scale reading in Fahrenheit, Centigrade and Reaumur scales. Broad mercury action thermometer set to the centre with large reservoir, which makes the thermometer easily read. Protective brass guard to the reservoir and securing plates to the top and bottom. Bears the makers name and address, Moritz Pillischer, 88 New Bond St, London, trading at this address from 1850-1888. He was noted as exhibiting at the G...reat Exhibition at Crystal Palace in 1851. Superb quality and presented in immaculate, fully working condition.
