A fine quality George III period figured oak 8 day longcase clock with strawberry blossom painted dial C.1775. The slim proportioned case with long door, crossbanded with mahogany and flanked by reeded mahogany quarter columns. Matching mahogany crossbanded foot with moulded plinth and bracket feet. The hood with moulded cornice and fruitwood strung mahogany decorative panel above the dial, reeded columns to the sides of the view window. Original painted dial with strawberry blossom decoration to the corners and birds to the centre. Subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture. The original 8 day... movement with anchor escapement and bell striking to the hour. Fully overhauled movement. Superb condition with original patina and colour. Measures 79" high x 10" deep x 20" wide at the widest point. Trunk width 14". Stock number 35456.
