A fine quality late Victorian inlaid rosewood Carlton house style desk with leather writing surface and superb colour and polish c.1890. Rosewood veneered onto a high quality mahogany construction with boxwood stringing to all surfaces including the legs and sides; the front and surfaces superbly inlaid in fruitwood. Drawers to the rear of leather writing surface with two swept top compartments above; each opening to reveal pen and ink fitments including original ink wells and pen trays. Shallow shelf sat in-between adjoining the drawers with gilt brass gallery to t...he back, matching gallery to the top of the drawers and below the shelf. Three drawers to the front below the surface, the centre one with bowed front. Sat on tapering legs with original brass castors to the ends. Superb quality and condition with a rich even colour and original polish. Very sturdy and useable. Measures 42" wide x 24" deep x 29" writing surface height and overall height 37.5" at the back.
