Description

A Fine Late Regency period rosewood bow fronted stick barometer.c.1830. Made by highly regarded maker, John Frederick Newman*of Regent Street, London(w.1827-62). Silvered engraved scales with vernier marker. Matching thermometer scale below. Turned cistern cover to the base. Rare bow fronted model. Superb colour and patina. Measures 5" x 2.5"deep x 37"long.
*John Frederick Newman the leading scientific barometer maker of this period. Made standard and portable barometer for the Ross Antarctic expedition. Also the mountain barometer for Charles Darwin 'Beagle' voyage. Exhibited at the Great Exhibition Crystal Palace 1851.
