A fine quality George III period double fusse figured mahogany bracket clock with brass and silvered dial, bell striking and alarm by Henry Jenkins, London c.1775. The figured mahogany case with bell top, brass carrying handle set above, fretwork decoration to the top of the moulded edge glazed door with matching moulding sat around the edge of the glass. Original double sound fretts to each side, moulded plinth to the base with small stepped pad feet below, and glazed hinged door to the rear. Brass and silvered dial with engraved chapter ring, subsidiary strike/silent dial to the arched an...d date aperture to the lower half of the dial. Engraved silvere disk to the centre of the hands for setting the alarm. Matted dial centre with cartouch bearing the makers name, cast gilded brass spandrels to the corners. The movement with engraved backplate, anchor escapement and twin fusee drives. Twin bells, one for the hour striking and the other for the alarm, repeat mechanisms for both the striking and alarm. Henry Jenkins is recorded as making fine quality bracket, astronomical and geographical clocks between 1768 and 1778. A particularly fine example is housed at the British Museum. This example presented in superb original condition with a rich colour and patina to the case; the movement fully overhauled and working.
