A fine quality George III period figured mahogany stick barometer with silvered scale by Abraham Jacob of Bath, in superb original condition c.1810. The slim case (2.75" wide at the trunk) is ebony strung with moulded edges and figured mahogany veneers. Swan neck pediment to the top with glazed view window below and turned cistern cover to the base. Engraved silvered scale with mercury barometer tube set to the centre and original matching mercury action thermometer set to the side. Remote action vernier marker which is operated by a bone adjustment wheel set to the top right of the trunk. ...Bears the makers name Jacob, Bath to the dial. Abraham Jacob is recorded as an important barometer maker working at various addresses in Bath and later in Cheltenham. He is also noted as barometer maker to the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of Wellington. This instrument presented in superb original condition with a rich colour and original patina, fully serviced and working.
