A shallow proportioned George III period walnut Bachelors chest with fold over top and leather writing surface c.1800. Book matched figured walnut veneers to the top with crossbanded edges. The hinged top folding over to form a large writing surface with an inset brown leather cloth. When open the writing surface is supported by pull out sleepers to the front of the chest. Four graduated drawers below, each drawer with book matched figured veneers and herringbone crossbanded moulded edges; reeded canted corners to each side. Moulded plinth to the base with bracket ...feet below. Oak lined drawers with original steel locks and original brass fittings. Presented in excellent condition with a rich colour and polish. Measures 27" wide x 14" deep, opening out to 28" deep writing surface x 29.75" high. Stock number 42039.
