A rare and fine quality mid Victorian solid silver bosun's whistle by highly regarded maker George Unite, hallmarked Birmingham 1870. Curved tubular section forming the mouth piece, adjoining the barrel shaped end with embossed anchor decoration to each side and hole forming the whistle. Engraved supporting panel below with decorative flower bud engraving to both sides; hanging loop to the wire work scrolled end. Bears the makers mark for Birmingham silversmiths George Unite along with clear hallmarks. Presented in superb condition and in working order. Measures 4" long x 0.7...5" maximum depth x 0.9" wide at whistle end. Stock number 40796.
