A superb Edwardian over mantel mirror by in the Arts & Crafts movement style by highly regarded and collectable makers Shapland & Petter c.1905. Stepped cornice to the top in classic arts & crafts style, rebate on the top for plates. Broad pilasters set either side of the mirror which are inlaid with stylised flower heads and stalks in colourful fruitwoods. Moulded edge to the mirror, the original quarter plate bevelled edge mirror glass in excellent condition. Paneled back with stamped Shapland & Petter 'R' prefix serial number. Shapland & Petter produced furniture for ...some of the UK's most prestigious retailers including Liberty's and worked with famous designers such as Ballie Scott and William Cowie. There works can be viewed in the Museum of North Devon in Barnstaple, the makers home town and in other museums across the country. This example presented in superb original unrestored condition.
