A superb quality early Victorian figured mahogany bookcase on cabinet with decorative glazed doors and cupboards in the manner of Pugin c.1840. Substantial construction throughout with flared cornice to the top, twin glazed doors with decorative glazing bars in the manner of Pugin to the upper half of the bookcase and moulded pilasters sat either side of the doors. The hinged doors with working lock and key opening to reveal a shelved interior with adjustable shelf heights. The deeper base section with twin panelled doors with overlaid decoration to match the top section and ...two drawers above with moulded fronts. Pilasters sat either side of the doors with acanthus leaf design mounts. Plinth base forming the foot with single shelf to the interior. Superbly made in the best quality timbers and presented in excellent original unrestored condition with a rich colour and polish. Measures 39" wide at the cornice x 17" deep at the base x 89" high. Top section 10.5" deep internally, base section 12.5" deep internally. Stock number 42817.
