A Superb Regency period oak and steel bound trunk.c.1830. Made by Wimbush* of Regent Street, London. Original clasp and working lock to the front. Carry handles to the sides. Owner's brass label to the front, 'Capt Donnelly' of Lord Nelson's fleet*.Full provenance within. Very solid condition. Measures 26" x 16" x 18"high. *Wimbush maker's to King George IV and King William IV. *Captain Ross Donnelly(1761-1840) was later promoted to Admiral Sir Ross Donnelly after being held in high esteem by Horatio Nelson on returning from the Napoleonic Wars. He is well documented and highly regarded, bec...oming a Knight Commander of the Order of Bath.
