A Superior George II period figured walnut 8 Day longcase clock.c.1745. Brass and silvered dial with date aperture and seconds count to the engraved centre. Ringed winders and gilt spandrels to the corners. Made by Josiah Thompson of Whitehaven*(w.1740-68). Strikes on a bell to the hour. Superior case with herringbone inlay and cross banding throughout. Book matched veneers to the quarter column case. Superb colour and patina. Full working order. Stands 79"high. * Josiah Thompson of Cockermouth and Whitehaven, the first of three generations of this clock making family until 1846.
