A Victorian mahogany cased marine stick barometer with original brass gimbal in full working order c.1885. The slim cased stick barometer with arched top and brass securing loop. Bevelled edge glass to the top viewing window with bone scale sat behind and mercury action barometer tube set to the centre. The slim trunk with second viewing window containing a bone scale and original mercury action thermometer to the centre. Brass cistern to the base with locking nut to the underside. The barometer is sat in the original hinged brass gimbal, which folds to the side and orig...inally kept the barometer upright when at sea. Bears the makers name Lowther, Newcastle to the top of the dial. Presented in good original unrestored condition and in full working order. Measures 37" long x 2.5" wide at the top scale and 1.75" wide at the trunk x 1.5" deep plus 4.5" wide at gimbal x 7" maximum depth from wall at gimbal. Stock number 41767.
