A quality Victorian figured oak stick barometer by John Davis of Derby in full working order c.1880. The slim figured oak case with arched moulded top and bevelled edge glass view window over the angled bone scales, remotely adjustable twin vernier markers set to the sides. The slim case with chequered fruitwood and ebony strung edge and round base with turned cistern cover. John Davis & Son worked in Derby from 1830 until 1917 and became highly regarded retailers of instruments and later mining safety equipment. This instrument, fully restored and working. Presented in excellent condit...ion with a deep shine. Measures 36" long x 4.25" maximum width x 2.5" maximum depth. Stock number 38407.
