Victorian Treen Sock Darning Egg

An unusual piece of Victorian treen in the form of an egg used as an aid for darning socks. Form in a mixture of strips mahogany and fruitwood in the shape of an egg, the wide end with a piece of inset bone bearing the owners initials. The broad end would be placed in the sock to open it up, and the bone inset in the end would serve as a needle guard. Beautifully made and presented in excellent original condition with a rich colour and polish.
