A quality mid Victorian burr walnut letter box with brass trimmed exterior and engraved bone lables for answered and unanswered letters c.1875. Oblong form with hinged lid and burr veneers to all sides. The lid with two slots to post the letters surrounded by applied decorative brass fittings held in place by domed head brass studs. Bone plates engraved answered and unanswered for the two letter slots. Matching brass escution to the keyhole with working lock and key. The lid opening to reveal a two section interior with original printed paper lining. Presented in superb original condition w...ith a rich colour and polish. Measures 9" long x 4.5" deep x 4" high.
